Political Compass
A simplified visual representation of selected ideological currents and Spanish political parties. Positions are illustrative and are not intended as objective measurements of any political actor.
Positions are an eXcenda approximate analytical interpretation, not an official classification. No universal methodology exists to place ideologies or parties on a two-axis compass. Uncertainty zones indicate the estimated range. The chart excludes dimensions such as territorial politics, nationalism, European integration or foreign policy.

What are you looking at?
The compass uses two simplified dimensions to represent political positions. The objective is not to definitively label an ideology or party, but to offer a visual reference to compare general tendencies.
It represents, approximately, the tension between positions more oriented toward redistribution, state intervention and collective ownership, and positions with greater emphasis on private property, economic freedom and market mechanisms.
It represents approximately the tension between greater authority and social control, and greater autonomy and individual liberty. It brings together elements such as civil liberties, public order, political authoritarianism, behavioural regulation and decentralisation of power.
Important: economic left and right are not automatically equivalent to more or less authority. A political position can combine a relevant economic role of the state with more libertarian social positions, or defend relatively free markets together with a high degree of political authority.
Possible economic channels by zone
Ideological position does not by itself determine market behaviour or the evolution of your net worth. What matters are the specific measures, how they are financed, when they are implemented and how households, companies and markets react. The following descriptions are illustrative scenarios.
These descriptions are illustrative scenarios. The same political orientation can translate into very different economic policies depending on the country, the historical moment and the specific programme.

How to bring this context to your finances
This is not about trying to predict elections or investing according to an ideological label. It is about identifying which risks can affect your financial situation and building a strategy that does not depend on a single political scenario.
- Diversify geographically to reduce dependence on the regulation and economic cycle of a single country.
- Diversify across asset classes according to your time horizon, required liquidity and risk tolerance.
- Model fiscal scenarios using the compound interest calculator.
- Maintain sufficient liquidity to reduce the probability of having to sell investments in unfavourable moments.
Methodology and limitations
A two-axis political compass is necessarily a simplification. There is no single universal methodology for placing ideologies or parties in a representation of this type.
How do we calculate positions?
Each coordinate is built from a weighted evaluation of independent criteria defined by eXcenda.
- Protection of private property
- Taxation and progressivity
- Redistribution and social spending
- Economic regulation
- State intervention in sectors
- Economic freedom and competition
- Civil liberties and rights
- State authority and order
- Public security
- Individual autonomy
- Behavioural regulation
- Decentralisation of power
Based on these criteria, each ideology or party receives a valuation per axis that is transformed into a final numeric coordinate. The scale used on the map ranges from −10 to +10 per axis, with 0 being the intermediate position.
About Spanish political parties
The main parties with national parliamentary representation and/or recent electoral relevance are included, together with certain relevant formations to facilitate visual comparison. The reference used is the most recent electoral programme, institutional positions and prominent public statements.
Party positions can change over time and may vary depending on the issue analysed. In addition, this representation does not incorporate dimensions such as territorial policy, nationalism, Europeanism, foreign policy or certain cultural issues.
The positions shown are an analytical interpretation based on criteria defined by eXcenda, not an official classification of the parties. Therefore, the position of a party in the chart does not replace the analysis of its electoral programme, its concrete proposals and its track record of action.
Legal and analytical note: the compass does not constitute political or financial advice. Its objective is to provide context for analysing scenarios and to better understand the relationship between politics, economics and net worth. Financial decisions should be based on your personal situation and qualified advice.
